I look for a strong software for creation of TIN (tunnels, statues, heritage, rock faces, buildings). We use HDS 3000 scanner and Cyclone software. I can obtain TIN in Cyclone but I have to use one up direction. Can you recommend me the other software where I can get TIN quickly, without use up direction, smooth it without spikes, etc.
I am looking for a good tool for meshing point clouds of industrial plants (mainly piping etc, for as-built surveys). Any suggestions here?
I am also in the process of choosing a scanner. Are there things to pay special attention to while making the selection? For example: are there differences between scanners how they handle shiny surfaces ?
I would suggest that 3D Modeling, as apposed to surface meshing, would be the way forward for any industrial work that involves items such as pipework.
The "industry standard" in the plant industry worldwide for creating 3D models from point cloud data is Cyclone (Leica), however it really depends on what you want to do with the results. There are also now many applications and work flows that allow you to negate any need for modeling at all. Most scanner manufacturers have software for importing or viewing the point clouds directly in whatever design / clash / etc etc software that you need (AutoCAD, PDMS, Smartplant etc). Obviously at the current moment in time the only information that you can get from a point cloud is geometry so if you need any process or material information as well then 3D models are great for this kind of thing.
I'd be happy to have a chat with you about this if you want to email me...
I apologize if I left some applications out, I know there must be way more than this, feel free to add to this list. Also, I am not recommending any specific package or saying one is better than any other... they are all good I think _________________ Ed Oliveras
