I am looking for the highest quality / accuracy 3D laser scanning equipment / software package to convert scans into 2D AutoCad plan & elevation drawings, also PDS 3D models. Projects will be complete "As Built" on multiple offshore platforms. Equipment will be shipped to site in helicopter so rugged, reliable equipment is a must. Any Suggestions?

Trimble just started carrying the most accurate long range scanner on the market - called the Trimble FX. We've used it - its super accurate, and pretty fast too. Range is perhaps the only issue, price not bad either.
I can provide details, specs, contact info, etc. and for software solution as you describe. I will put you in touch with the experts in this area.

The Trimble FX as Michael mentioned has I hear very clean data...
Also, FARO released a new higher accuracy scanner called the Photon.
The data is very clean, but noise not as low noise as Surphaser, although the measurement range is very long range compared to the Surphaser OEM Trimble unit.
Keep in mind support is very important that you have the proper training and customer service to keep you up and running.
If you're evaluating a purchase I highly recommend you get a proper demo of all systems AND software solutions.
Also, many software packages can import data from other systems so don't feel restrained to one hardware system if you really like the software. _________________ Ed Oliveras
