Hi all,

we have a large database of point clouds (9GB+) and want to import it into NavisWorks. What is the most efficient workflow (file formats, software tools, model manipulation, etc) to do the import? and what is the best way to condense the size of the data as much as possible?

our laser scanning contractor uses Cyclone and told us that they can expert the data in any format supported by Cyclone.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

NavisWorks has an option to import scan data from several types of scanners including Leica which is the PTS or PTX extension.

I'm not sure that it's the best way because we have not tried them all, but we usually export the points to an ASCII file and then import them into NavisWorks. You will have to change the import settings within NavisWorks to import the intensity or color values or the cloud will come in white. (Tools-Global Options-File Readers-ASCII)

The file size of the ASCII will be slightly smaller and will take some time to import, but once it's in there the program moves along very well.

Hope this helps.
