Greetings all,

First I would like to say, I am very grateful that this forum exists! Next, I am a complete newbie when it comes to 3d scanning so please excuse my ignorance! Ok with that out of the way I can ask my question.

I need to make 3d scans of small metallic fragments that come in a variety of shapes and sizes. I am looking to get the surface area of these fragments. What would be the ideal software/hardware setup and why?

Thanks in advance,
Thomas

The size of the objects and the resolution needed are critical in your case. What is the range of size we are talking about and what resolution is required (general shape of the object or small details like cracks and bumps).

Also, what do you want to do with the 3D object? This will give me an idea for proposing the right software... Reverse engineering, design, prototyping, quality control, archiving or documenting?

I work for a 3D scanning company and I realized hundreds of scanning projects with various hardware and software. Tell me a little more and I will be able to suggest you some solutions!

Hello!

Exactly the same problem as Thomas: I am knew to the field and really need some advices. Embarassed

In my case: I need to analyze a shaft with a diameter of 6mm, length of a a few cm, controlling the screw and the flat surface to detect holes or other defects.
The objectives:
- To get an idea of the surface roughness (profile)
- To detects holes of 10x10 microns or greater
- To control that the turn of the screw had no damage

Is there a possibility to do that with 3D laser scanning, laser triangulation, laser interferometry?!?

Best regards Very Happy
Mikafil

You can create many versatile scanning through those techniques.
