Hi There,

I would be very grateful if anyone has some advise for the following applications;

I am looking to use 3D scanning and software as an alternative to photographing objects in a photography studio. Typically, the king of objects I would photograph are jewelry, perfume bottles, cosmetics and watches, amongst other things at a similar scale. These objects are often highly detailed, with delicate textures and are often transparent or have a specific surface finish.

Ideally I would like to find a way to scan the actual objects in 3D, yet maintain a very "photographic" and real feeling to them. Many examples of 3D images I have seen, have a computerized feel to them, in a way that you can tell it is not totally real. I don't mean basic 3D modelling, which is obviously computerized, but even some very detailed models are not entirely convincing.

I would be very interested to hear any suggestions for a very high-end solution, or if anyone has any reference which may be relevant, them please be in touch.

Many Thanks
Mario

Scanning Jewlery could be a little tricky because much of it is very shiny and reflective and may have trouble scanning. My method of using 3D as opposed to photos would be to model the products by hand OR use a rough scan of the object as a reference for hand modeling.

Once the model is created it is possible to create very realistic renderings using non-CAD 3D tools.

Try a white light scanner with a rotary table.
